Background: Recently, we've started a multicenter randomized clinical trial in the Netherlands aiming to evaluate safety and efficacy of a reduced course of postoperative antibiotics after appendectomy for complex appendicitis: the APPIC trial (Antibiotics following aPPendectomy In Complex appendicitis). The definition of the standard (5 days) and experimental study arm (48 hours) are based on current guidelines and a national prospective cohort study in 62 Dutch hospitals performed in 2014. A literature search yielded little to no information regarding the indication and duration of postoperative antibiotic treatment after appendectomy in other countries. In order obtain an overview of how complex appendicitis is managed internationally, thereby anticipating on the external validity of our trial, we are conducting this international survey.

The goal of this survey is to obtain an overview of common practice regarding diagnosis and treatment of complex acute appendicitis on an international level.

The survey consists of:

- 13 multiple-choice questions

- 5 video-assessments.(optional)
